Here is a small handful of answers we find ourselves frequently sharing:
Q: I’m working out my project budgets. What can I anticipate spending?
Here’s a loose answer: you determine the spend. Based on finances you have available and are willing to invest in your project, you determine the budget - and we work to support you in keeping it as on track as possible.
And. While we work to ensure the budget you allocate to this project stays intact, designers can’t control it once the contractor takes over. Changes and adjustments to scope and labour (for example) can create fluctuations in the pricing - and while we remain involved to try and help maintain the budget to the best of our ability, yet if work needs to be done, then it has to happen.
That’s why we always recommend clients know their max budget, yet tell us and our project partners a number below that maximum - leaving room for a contingency fund to accommodate changes.
Remember: both new builds AND renovations come with their hidden costs. New builds may surface some challenges with the site, with labour availability, with resource availability (etc) that can cause the budget to fluctuate. Renovations may surface previous work not being up to code or internal issues (like mold) that can’t be seen with the naked eye - or before a wall comes down.
We’ve got a vision for how we’ll be hosting in our fresh space. How long does a project take?
The excitement of welcoming people into a refreshed home is so real. And, to ensure the quality and cohesiveness of what we create isn’t compromised by tight timelines, accommodating a minimum 6 months for a full-scale project is necessary. Remember: as scope and complexity scale, so does the time required to complete something...so time scaling to one year or more is completely possible.
There’s a focus on pre-design in the way KRC works; why is the creative process so important?
A lot goes into designing a home, and the process is much more in depth than what’s shown on home reno and decor shows on TV. What they show: a couple fast conversations about paint + space needs. What really happens: a whole lot more.
There’s a ton of work that has gone in before they show up on camera to that person’s door. That, in effect, is what we do and dedicate our pre-design, creative deep dive to.
What that additional focus on getting to know you does, on top help you feel at home in your own home, is to ensure your final 3D vision comes to life. Which is the point of diving in and doing the work together - right? Right.
Looks like Vancouver is homebase. Do you work across Canada, and internationally?

How hands on or hands off can be? I don’t have much experience.
We hear you - life is big and the project management of a revived space can feel like a second full time job. Luckily, being fully immersed in every detail of a project is our favourite thing. Leave it to us - we can take the entire process off your hands and you can simply walk into your newly refreshed home (see the next section: this is what we call our turnkey service).
Life’s big right now and I’m trying to streamline as many facets of it as possible. Do you offer turnkey services?
We sure do. Leave everything to us and all you have to do is show up. From putting the last mug in place to stacking the forks and knives in your kitchen drawers, we can handle every single last detail so all you have to do is open the door, and start living in your new space. It’s a zero-boxes and completely-painless way of coming home.
How long does furniture take?
Because of the sometimes-custom nature of the products we select, furniture can take 4 - 16 weeks to be delivered. And, if you’ve got specific timelines you’re working with, we’ll do everything we can to suggest products whose lead time supports your schedule.
